Travelling by bus is not what it was. Today travelers can enjoy comfortable seats in modern buses equipped with Wi-Fi, air conditioning, extra legroom, TV screen and all the amenities you can imagine.
Mendez Alvaro Bus Station, also called Estación del Sur , is the largest bus station in Spain and one of the busiest bus stations in Europe. Every day dozens of buses depart towards destinations as varied as Salamanca, Valencia, Barcelona, Lisbon, Paris, Marrakech or Bucharest. Mendez Alvaro Station was opened in 1997 and is equipped with modern facilities, which makes the wait much more pleasant for all travelers. Bus ticket sales counters are located right in front of the main entrance. If you do not know which company operate your destination ask at the information desk located in the middle of the hall.
Docks are located on the ground floor (escalators) and the destination of each bus is indicated on the front of the vehicle. Large luggage should go in the luggage compartment of the bus. If you bought the ticket online, the employee might check your ID Card / Passport for security reasons before boarding the bus.
Watch your belongings carefully, especially bags and suitcases. Despite the presence of police and private security personnel, Mendez Alvaro Station is unfortunately home to pickpockets and thieves who continually try to fleece tourists and travelers.
